Record shots of male Desert Finch at Cape Greco this morning 30th April 2017

A male and a female were found by visiting UK birder Nick Antcliff and luckily I was in the area at the same time and quickly relocated them. Sun all wrong and its ‘a bird on a wire’ but you can still see what it is

Probably same as found on 18th April by Norweigian birder Eric Roualet. Another reported Apostolos Andreas early in the month was the first record for Cyprus.

Cape Greco and Agia Napa coast 26th February 2016

Pleased to finally get the chance on Friday afternoon to see the first year White-crowned Wheatear that was found at Cape Greco on Tuesday. The eighth record of this species in Cyprus. Also at Cape Greco of note were four Isabelline Wheatear, two Tawny Pipit, a pale Long-legged Buzzard, four Blue Rock Thrush and a passing Audouin’s Gull. On leaving Cape Greco I checked the coast at Kermia Beach where I found two Greater Sand Plover, a Grey Plover, two Northern Lapwing and a migrating flock of 54 Great Cormorant. Moving onto Macronissos Beach there were thirteeen Greater Sand Plover, three Dunlin, around seventy Kentish Plover and a Little Egret.

Striated Heron, Zakaki Marsh – a first for Cyprus 27th October 2014

The most interesting birding news of the day was the finding of a juvenile Striated Heron at Zakaki. Apparently the bird has been present since last week and photographed by local birders but was only ID’d this morning. A first for Cyprus and I was pleased to get this photo of it early this afternoon.
