Waterbird count Larnaca this morning 15th September

Found some good birds in the Larnaca area while doing the waterbird count. Good to see that there is still some water on Spiros Pool where there were good numbers of migrating waders. Four Ruddy Turnstone on the Sewage Pools were a highlight.

Some of the species seen:

Larnaca Sewage Works: Northern & Isabelline Wheatear, Greater Flamingo 9, Grey Heron 4, Mallard 150, Little Grebe 12, Northern Shoveler 66, Eurasian Teal 38, Black-winged Stilt 9, Common Ringed Plover 5, Little Stint 70, Little Ringed Plover 1, White-winged Tern 2, Spur-winged Lapwing 14, Little Egret 2, Dunlin 4, Northern Pintail 4, Ruddy Turnstone 4, Ruff 9

Spiros Pool: Red-backed Shrike 3, Marsh Sandpiper 1, Common Ringed Plover 44, Little Ringed Plover 5, Common Redshank 3, Ruff 67, Dunlin 7, Grey Plover 1

Spiros Beach: Kentish Plover 130

Larnaca Salt Lake: Western Marsh Harrier 2, European Bee-eater 18, Masked Shrike 2, Whinchat 4, Red-backed Shrike 1, Northern Wheatear 1, Greater Flamingo 16

Meneou Beach: European Honey Buzzard 2 migrating towards Cape Kiti 11.30am
