Oroklini Marsh this morning 14th May 2016

A brief visit to Oroklini Marsh where there was a Little Tern fishing, a Little Bittern, an adult and immature Black-crowned Night Heron and two Garganey as well as the usual Black-winged Stilt and Spur-winged Lapwing. On the coast of Larnaca south of the airport there was a Whimbrel flying west and two Little Tern on Meneou Pool with a Great Spotted Cuckoo nearby.

Two record shots from Oroklini as I attempt to master getting decent flight photos…..

Two additions to the Cyprus list so far this year

Record shots taken 29th April 2016 of the male Amur Falcon found at Anarita Park the day before by Matt Smith and now delighting both local and visiting birders. The second Cyprus first this year after a Brown-necked Raven found by Keith and Raija Howard at Cape Greco in March. A crashed laptop means I lost my (admittedly poor) photos of that bird.

Agios Sozomenos, Nicosia 25th April 2016

Not a lot of bird life around Agios Sozomenos this morning but I did find one displaying European Roller, Long-legged Buzzard, a male Red-backed Shrike and two European Bee-eater. The Red-backed Shrike was being followed around by a Spectacled Warbler which I assume had a nest in the vicinity. Many Western Jackdaw are breeding in the deserted village and the adjacent cliffs.
